Visa Lottery
The U.S. Visa Lottery, officially known as the Diversity Visa Program, is a program created by the U.S. government that grants immigrant visas (Green Cards) to individuals from countries with low immigration rates to the United States. Each year, up to 55,000 diversity visas are issued to applicants randomly selected through a lottery system.

Program Objective
- The objective of the program is to diversify the immigrant population in the United States by allowing the entry of individuals from countries that have historically had low representation in U.S. immigration.
Main Requirements to Participate (Subject to change each year)
Be a Native of an Eligible Country:
- If you were born in a non-eligible country, you may still qualify if your spouse or, in some cases, one of your parents was born in an eligible country.
Educational or Work Experience Requirements:
- You must have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent, meaning you have successfully completed a 12-year formal education program that includes both primary and secondary education.
- Alternatively, if you do not have a diploma, you can qualify if you have two years of work experience within the last five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform.
Application Process
Registration Period:
- Registration takes place once a year, usually between October and November. Specific dates vary and are announced annually by the U.S. Department of State.
Filling Out the Online Form:
- It's important to provide accurate and complete information, including personal, educational, and employment details. You will also need to upload a recent photograph that meets specific requirements.
Receipt of Confirmation Number:
- After completing the registration, you will receive a confirmation number. It is crucial to save this number, as you will need it to check whether you have been selected.
Random Selection:
- Selected applicants are notified through the official U.S. Department of State website, where they must enter their confirmation number to check their status.
Visa Application Process:
- Being selected does not guarantee a visa, as you must meet all eligibility requirements and pass the interview process.
Important Considerations
- The registration takes place once a year, generally between October and November. Specific dates vary and are announced each year by the U.S. Department of State. If you are selected, you must act quickly to complete the process, as visas are issued on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is a limit of 55,000 visas.
The program offers a unique opportunity to obtain permanent residency in the U.S., especially for individuals from countries with low immigration rates, and is one of the few ways a person without family or employment connections in the U.S. can legally immigrate to the country.
